COPPERAS COVE – The fine arts programs in Copperas Cove ISD now have a dedicated leader.

Tuesday, the CCISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Megan Kenobbie to serve as the district’s inaugural Director of Fine Arts, overseeing band, choir, theatre and visual arts programs at all campuses.

“As a lifelong supporter and participant in the fine arts, from performing in choir and theatre to directing student productions as a teacher, I understand the transformative power these programs have on young people,” Kenobbie said. “My experience leading a high school theatre program and collaborating with fine arts educators as a campus administrator has deepened my passion for promoting creativity, expression, and student voice. I am honored and excited to step into the role of the inaugural Director of Fine Arts, where I will work to elevate, expand, and celebrate the arts across our district.”

Kenobbie has been with the district since 2021, when she joined the team at Copperas Cove High School as an assistant principal. In that time, she guided the 2024 cohort through graduation and the 2028 cohort’s transition from middle school to high school.

She is a certified T-TESS appraiser and led appraisals for staff members in various positions across the CCHS campus. Prior to moving into administration, Kenobbie worked at a nearby high school campus where she led the theatre club for students, including show selection, fundraising and all logistics involved.

“Mrs. Kenobbie is passionate about the opportunities provided for our students through fine arts and will be an enormous advocate for these programs as the district’s first Director of Fine Arts,” said Superintendent Dr. Brent Hawkins. “In addition to overseeing our programs at the secondary level, she will also work closely with elementary principals to enrich the arts experience of each student in CCISD. We look forward to seeing the positive impact she will continue to have for the students in Copperas Cove.”

Kenobbie will begin in her new role after the district returns from the 4th of July.

Trustees also approved the purchase and installation of new HVAC units for the cafeteria at Williams/Ledger Elementary School, replacing units that are beyond their usable lifespan.

“Our district has done a great job maintaining its HVAC equipment and that’s been evident in the lengthy lifespan we’ve gotten from these units,” Hawkins said. “Our district has a large number of these units that 20 years old or more, including these two that have failed and are not reparable at this point. This purchase will allow us to ensure the continued safety and comfort of students, staff and the food items being prepared.”

The board also approved the purchase of card readers and security cameras, largely funded by grant funds, to improve the safety & security of each student and staff member across the district. It also approved the purchase of TransFinder services to shift toward for parents to remain informed on their child’s bus ride to and from school.

The board is next scheduled to hold its regular July workshop & meeting. The workshop is scheduled for Noon on July 14th & the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. July 15th, both in the Board Room at the District Service & Training Center on South Main Street.
